Extensive experience in the field of hip surgery inspired Mr G Chana to research the possibility of minimally invasive techniques for such operations. As a result, he developed a radical new approach to hip resurfacing and replacement surgery using specially designed instrumentation to adapt to small incision surgery

In February 2002, Mr G Chana applied for a patent for his innovative approach to hip surgery, and at the same time, filed a patent for special instrumentation which would allow surgeons to carry out the minimally invasive hip operations. He is now working with leading implant companies on the design and development of these instruments.

Mr Chana has personally carried out over 500 operations using the minimally invasive approach for both resurfacing and total hip replacements. By 2001, he had carried out over 1,500 hip resurfacing procedures using open approach.
