| Is
Minimally invasive resurfacing surgery or hip replacement suitable for
me?
Total hip replacements have been carried out with excellent results
in elderly over a number of years.
Similarly hip resurfacing surgery has been carried out using metal on
metal prosthesis for more than ten years successfully in younger and
active patients.
Mr G Chana FRCS, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon has carried out more
than 2500 hip replacements in his long career and has pioneered the
‘minimally invasive hip surgery’ (Both hip replacement and
hip resurfacing using a small incision) for both elderly and young adults.
His experience and results indicates that this technique is useful for
both age groups undergoing either hip replacement or hip resurfacing
surgery.
What other factors do I need to consider for ‘Minimally
Invasive Hip Surgery’?
• That you have osteoarthritis of hip (as diagnosed by your family
doctor or GP or Orthopaedic surgeon) and hip replacement in elderly
and hip resurfacing in young adults is the technique of choice.
• Some young adults with destructive arthritis may not be suitable
for hip resurfacing surgery.
• If you are undergoing resurfacing surgery, it is essential that
you may need to have long term follow up, in view that this procedure
has been carried out only for ten years.
• Conserve Plus is being used for hip resurfacing surgery by Mr
G Chana and has been used for a number of years with an excellent record.
• Lebinus, Muller, Exeter and Anca Fit prosthesis have been used
in minimally invasive hip replacement surgery by Mr G Chana. These implants
have an excellent outcome record.
